Fight against opioid crisis takes toll on first responders

paramedics vehicle(WMUR, March 19) Opioid addiction is hitting the Manchester’s first responders hard. Earlier this week, U.S. Sen. Maggie Hassan listened to local police, firefighters and EMTs as they discussed “compassion fatigue” and the emotional impact their jobs can have on their personal lives.

"Certainly in my 35 years on the job, I've never seen this much death," Manchester Fire Chief Dan Goonan said.

"The impact of this epidemic on children, that is what's bothering these first responders the most, because having parents with addiction has become the norm for some of them," Sen. Hassan said. Read more.
