NJ hospital that cut ER use of opioids would become national model, under proposed law

(NorthJersey.com, April 23) Lawmakers are hopeful that the proposed “Alternatives to Opioids (ALTO) in the Emergency Department Act” could help decrease opioid prescriptions across the state and nationwide.

Under the new law, the opioid prescribing guidelines which helped St. Joseph’s University Medical Center (a hospital that has one the of country’s busiest emergency rooms) significantly decrease the amount of opioid painkillers prescribed to patients will be shared with other hospitals across the country.
