New program sponsored by DEA uses dancing to keep kids off drugs

kids dancing(ABC Action News, August 28) The DEA’s Youth Dance Program is heading to three Manatee County schools this fall.

The 20-week program is designed to teach children about healthy lifestyles through the art of dance. To date, the DEA Youth Dance Program has reached over 700 children through school assemblies.

“Instead of just coming up here and preaching about the dangers of drugs and just talking about what a drug is and how bad it is for you, this is probably a healthier, better way to get the message out there because we need to reach kids with what they like,” Joanna Tides told ABC Action News.

The program will be at Manatee Elementary, Blackburn Elementary, and Oneco Elementary. Read more.
