Doctor charged in oxycodone deaths gets 20 years in prison

(Associated Press, August 23) Dr. Michael Kostenko of West Virginia, who was accused of writing illegitimate oxycodone prescriptions for many patients (three of whom died), was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison Wednesday.

Kostenko admitted to writing prescriptions for more than 20,000 painkiller pills without evaluating any of the 271 patients. His staff received more than $20,000 for giving out the prescriptions. Read more.
