Safety Warnings Increase Due To Epidemic of Drug Overdoses

(Legal Reader, March 26) The Food and Drug Administration is increasing safety warnings on painkiller labels in response to the dramatic growth of opioid overdoses nationwide. Drug companies will need to include information about misuse, abuse, addiction, overdose, and death on all opioids such as oxycodone and codeine. While labels are already present on bottles, the new FDA head Robert California says that doctors have become used to overprescribing, which contributes to the problem.
