What Drugs the Kids Are Using and Why

(Big Think, July 1) A recent survey shows what drugs kids are using these days. The study, conducted by the University of Michigan's ProjectNow, surveys 40,000 students in 8th, 10th and 12th grades. 50 percent of 12th graders, for example, have used illicit drugs at some point. Alcohol remains the top choice drug, followed by marijuana. The study also found that kids with strict parents (who didn't let them go out on school nights, and had completed their homework and chores) were less likely to get involved in drugs and alcohol.
