(Business Insider) Fentanyl, the cheap and powerful synthetic opioid often mixed with heroin, is now being found in cocaine in New York.
State health officials believe that the painkiller, which is 50 to 100 times more potent than morphine, is behind a rise in overdose deaths of cocaine users --- many of whom probably don’t even know they’ve ingested fentanyl, the Business Insider reports. In 2016, more than 40 percent of New York City’s drug overdoses involved fentanyl and 37 percent of overdoses were due to cocaine mixed with fentanyl. Read more
