High Schoolers on Heroin Abuse Other Drugs, Too

(HealthDay News, June 5) Teen heroin users – specifically high school seniors – are more likely to also abuse an average of five other drugs, according to a new study.

The study, entitled “Not just heroin: Extensive polysubstance use among US high school seniors who currently use heroin,” was completed by researchers at New York University School of Medicine.

They looked at data from 327 12th graders who said they’d used heroin in the past month and found that they commonly abused other drugs including other opioids and benzodiazepines.

Considering these findings, “It may be inadequate to focus on heroin and opioid use in isolation," one the study’s authors said. Read more.
