COVID-19 Is an Opportunity, Challenge for Addiction Treatment

Corona Virus In Red Artery illustration(Medicinenet, April 30) The COVID-19 pandemic has led to an increase in opportunities to use telemedicine and mental health hotlines for those struggling with substance misuse, NIDA Director Dr. Nora Volkow said during her speech at the virtual American Psychiatric Association (APA) Spring Highlights Meeting 2020.

 But unfortunately, the increased anxiety coupled with social isolation can lead to relapse and overdose, she added. Social interaction is an important tool for patients in recovery.  Read more.
