(Associated Press, November 18) For the first time ever, drug overdose deaths in the U.S. surpassed 100,000 during a 12-month period, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s provisional data between May 2020 and April 2021.
This is a 29% increase in deaths during the same time period one year before.
Fentanyl, the powerful and deadly synthetic opioid, is involved in a majority of the fatalities. Dealers mix it in with other drugs, therefore increasing the risk of overdose.
