Tennessee THC Ban Takes Effect July 1, 2026: What’s Legal, What’s Not
Last Updated: Tuesday June 23, 2026
(The Tennessean) Tennessee House Bill 1376, now Public Chapter 526, introduced a variety of changes to hemp in the Volunteer State, including new tax rates, age restrictions, penalties, and licensure requirements, with most provisions taking effect on January 1. However, the ban on THCA [the acidic precursor to THC] was postponed until July 1, following a last-minute compromise reached between lawmakers and industry stakeholders.
Key Points
A new Tennessee law taking full effect on July 1 will ban THC products with a concentration of 0.3% or higher.
The law reclassifies THCA, which converts to THC when heated, making many currently legal products illegal.
Purchasing any legal hemp products in the state will require an in-person transaction with a valid ID for those 21 and older.
